A self-described women of diverse interests, Gita has worn many hats and is driven to excel at all. Being one of the top students & athletes during her college years, she found her calling in Architecture & Design due to her equally compelling interests in scientific logic, innovation and creativity. After graduating with a B. Arch from BMS School of Architecture, Bangalore, she worked with well-renowned architects with specific exposure to premium homes, hospitality and recreational design. Gita is also a graduate of ISB, Hyderabad’s Entrepreneurial Management programme and was selected by Goldman-Sachs for its worldwide 10,000 Women Entrepreneur Program.
She along with her partner started Design Cafe in the year 2015. Post a decade-long successful career of working on varied projects in the residential & hospitality sector, she decided to focus her energies to fill the existing lacunae in the Designer Home Interiors space; with the idea of giving access to the best of designs & manufacturing processes to everyone (especially those who are underserved today), in their budget. So far the firm has designed, manufactured & delivered more than 5000 homes & is the highest-rated company for residential interiors in Bengaluru & have successfully launched their operations in Mumbai in June 2019.
An accidental Entrepreneur, Gita heads multiple functions in her company which range from Design Thinking and Development, Brand & Marketing, Customer Happiness & Human Resources and still finds time to devote to her assorted interests: reading, food, travel & fitness. She is also a renowned speaker & has spoken on many prestigious platforms like TEDx, NID, Design Open & Design Day to name a few. Gita has also been an integral part of IIID (Bangalore Chapter) and was instrumental in organizing the first Designuru. Crediting her middle-class values for her grounded nature, resilience and ambition, she draws inspiration from the strong women who helped mould her as the expert she is today. Recently, she was conferred with the ‘Best Businesswoman of the Year (Home Interiors)’ by ASSOCHAM and was also recognized in Business World’s ‘40 under 40’ list of Young Achievers award.
A strong advocate for equality, Gita doesn’t like being tagged as a “Female Leader/ Entrepreneur” but rather as a Leader/Entrepreneur/Mentor.
